Architectonic Contest Near Its Finale

The international jury decided today on the winning design for the architectonic solution of Praha-Veleslavín railway station. During a two-day session, it evaluated five final designs which moved from Phase 1. The contest was announced by Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) in connection with the preparation and elaboration of the project ”Modernization and New Construction of the Line Praha-Veleslavín (included) – Praha-Letiště Václava Havla”.

The international jury, presided by the architects Sándor Finta and Helg Lunder was choosing from five finalized designs. All are being valued by the jury as designs of very good quality. ”The winning design which we recommend for implementation is convincing and has the best suggested and transparent connections. At the same time, it creates an adequate foreground and uses roof landscape both for a continual follow-up of the bike path and for further use by the public“, said Mr. Sándor Finta, President of the jury.

After the expiration of obligatory terms and the approval of results by the SŽDC management, the winning design as well as all designs prepared during Phase 1 and 2 will be presented to the public. SŽDC plans the official presentation of results for the end of November.

The contest which was announced at the beginning of February is being prepared in cooperation with the capital city of Prague, the Institute of Planning and Development and the Prague 6 city part. Some components from the winning architectonic design will be used as consolidating constituents for other railway stations and stops on the line Praha – Kladno as well. During Phase 1, 22 architectonic designs of very good quality were submitted from which the jury selected five moving to the final phase in May 2019.
