Corridor Section Velim – Poříčany Awaits Reconstruction

Správa železnic has chosen the contractor of the Velim – Poříčany railway section that belongs to the most frequented parts of the Czech railway network. The construction will be co-financed from the CEF Transport Blending programme which is a combination of European CEF fund and a loan from European Investment Bank (EIB). The construction with total investment costs of CZK 3.83 billion will be carried out by an association of companies SWIETELSKY Rail CZ and Subterra, joint stock company.

This is the first construction to be funded by the new CEF Transport Blending Programme. This programme is focused primarily on previously modernized parts of corridors. In this case particularly sections Velim – Pečky a Pečky – Poříčany as well as Velim and Poříčany stations are to be reconstructed within the framework of the modernization itself. Pečky railway station will be reconstructed within a separate action that is also under preparation now“, said Mr. Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic. The first operational track closures in connection with this construction will start in June this year, the end of the all construction work will be at the end of 2022.

Poříčany railway station is a starting point for the whole reconstruction. In this station, the modernization of all platforms was finished recently, including a barrier-free access as well as extension of the underpass under the entire railway yard. Now the reconstruction of station tracks and more than twenty switches will follow. An integral part of the railway substructure works will be the recovery of drainage.

Between stations Velim and Pečky or between Pečky and Poříčany respectively, a complete reconstruction of the railway substructure and superstructure is planned. As part of the construction, railway branches will be newly built in Cerhenice and in Tatce, which will serve to increase the variability of traffic management in this heavily busy section. Platforms in Cerhenice and Tatce stops will consist of console panels with a standard height of 550 mm above the top of the rail as well as a barrier-free access. The Velim railway station and both stops will have a new information system and modern equipment.

Five railway bridges will be reconstructed in this section and at the same time the unused railway crossing will be cancelled in Dobřichov. At the same time, anti-noise measures will be extended. Overhead traction lines, including all components, will be completely replaced. The technical state of heating of switches, low-voltage and lighting installations will also be improved.

This project also includes the renewal and functionality extension of the station interlocking equipment in Velim and Pečky. A completely new station interlocking system will be built in Poříčany. A new centralized automatic electronic block will be installed in the track sections, resulting in the necessary software modification.

Total investment costs of this construction are CZK 3.830 billion without VAT. Under CEF Transport Blending programme, the project will be co-financed by the European Union up to 20% of the eligible implementation costs and financed by an EIB loan up to 50% of the total investment costs. National funding will be provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
