Fast trains at Pačejov Will Not Have to Brake, New Platforms Will Be Added to Faster Tracks

Pačejov Station in the vicinity of Klatovy will not be a notional brake on the railway line from České Budějovice to Plzeň anymore. While trains had to slow down to 65 kph up to now, they will be able to run at speeds of 100 kph after the completion of repairs which were festively launched today by Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC). Works should be finished in June 2021 with total investment costs equalling CZK 1 billion.

Eliminating speed drops will result in a decrease of trains’ journey times on an important line connecting České Budějovice and Plzeň. The construction implementation will bring an increase of line speed and line capacity as well as passengers’ safety and travelling culture. 4.5 kilometres of lines are going to be reconstructed altogether. Besides the railway station Pačejov as such, parts of both connecting double-track sections leading to Horažďovice předměstí and to Nepomuk are going to be renovated.

During the construction, current level platforms at Pačejov will be replaced by new ones with a standard boarding edge height of 550 mm above the top of rail. One external and one one-sided platform are suggested, both 120 m metres long. Grade-separated access will be assured by a newly built underpass; passengers with reduced mobility will be able to use a skew sidewalk completed by stairs leading to platforms. New access ways will be equipped with an orientation system for passengers. Exits from the underpass will acquire roofing, including the waiting area at Pačejov Station.

Works will include reconstruction of the track development at both ends of the station. Electrical heating will be installed on critical switch points. Current signalling equipment will be replaced by an electronic signal box Category 3 allowing remote traffic control. Passage on the main tracks will thus be accelerated up to 100 kph.

The project also includes reconstruction of two platforms and roofing at Kovčín railway stop and repairs of two railway bridges and nine culverts. New protective nets will be installed at two road overpasses. Signal boxes No 1 and 2 and three stone warehouses will be dismantled. The current passenger building at Pačejov will be adapted for technological installations. Based on the tracks’ position relocation, the catenary will be adapted as well.

Total costs of the investment designated as New platforms at Pačejov railway station and increasing speed in km 299.650 – 304.009 equal CZK 1,151,877,893 (VAT excluded). The project is co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport 2014–2020. The EU contribution rate can amount up to CZK 809,372,073. National financing is assured by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The construction supplier is the company Společnost ŽST PAČEJOV, consisting of firms BERGER BOHEMIA (company manager), PORR, COLAS CZ and AŽD Praha.
