First phase of reconstruction of station building in Teplice v Čechách begins

Today Správa železnic inaugurated the reconstruction of the listed building of Teplice railway station. First phase, which will end in December next year, includes a complete restoration of the roofs, including the roof trusses, the entire facade and the adjacent platform. The project, worth CZK 236.1 million, will be carried out by Chládek & Tintěra. The construction will be proposed for co-financing from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) of the European Union within the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

The reconstruction of the historic station building in Teplice was supposed to start this year, but it turned out that there was no money for it in the budget and even the previous government's budget proposal did not cover it. Nevertheless, I promised to look for a way to start the construction this year,” the Minister of Transport Martin Kupka says and adds: “I am very happy that this has been achieved and the restoration of this beautiful building can begin.

I very much appreciate that we have managed to move the project of the building reconstruction in Teplice to the implementation phase. It is the last of the large listed buildings that has not been renovated yet," Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic said.

“The aim of the project is to restore the original appearance of the building. In addition to several thousand square metres of facade or roofs, we will restore, for example, 59 columns and 350 windows, adds Petr Suchý, construction director at Chládek & Tintěra, the company from Litoměřice.

The current passenger building in the spa town under the Ore Mountains dates back to 1858. The large building was built in Neo-Romanesque style and at that time, it was the headquarters of the private Ústí nad Labem – Teplice Railway.

In the first phase, the roofs, including the roof trusses and the entire facade, will be restored and all windows and doors replaced as well. The works will also include the reconstruction of the 1st platform, which will be barrier-free with a raised platform edge. The historic roofing of the platform and the adjacent track will also be renovated.

The new look of the building was designed after a thorough restoration survey and takes its conservation status. The building will be cleaned of past poor quality alterations and its original historic features will be revived. It is also proposed to restore the historic colour scheme of the facade, combined with brick-coloured detailing; the cladding and metalwork will be dark grey. Artificial shingles and metal sheeting on the roof will be exchanged for stencils imitating the former slate roofing.

After the completion of the first reconstruction stage, the station building will become a representative and dignified part of this urban location. Project work on the second phase is also continuing intensively. Apart from the complete reconstruction of the building's interior, it will include, for example, the construction of new parking areas or the modification of the substation with the installation of a photovoltaic power plant on its roof.
