New Construction of Airport Line between Ruzyně and Václav Havel Airport in Final Stage of Project Preparation

Before Správa železnic starts building a new line to the Václav Havel Airport Prague in the section Praha-Ruzyně (excl.) – Praha-Letiště Václava Havla (excl.), one last step in project preparation remains. This last step is the preparation of documentation for the construction permit. Work will be carried out by the association of AFRY CZ s.r.o. and AF-Infrastructure AB, which won the tender with a price of CZK 109,900,500 excluding VAT. Estimated value of the contract was almost CZK 119 million. However, price was not the only evaluation criterion; expertise of the winning bidder determined a 40% stake of the selection decision. The project will also include a digital building model (BIM). The actual works should start in two years.

The upcoming new building is part of the planned railway connection between Prague, the airport and Kladno. It consists in the construction of a 4 km long double-track line in the section Praha-Ruzyně – Praha-Letiště Václava Havla, including a new railway stop  Praha-Dlouhá Míle. It will be located in the development area near the Václav Havel Airport Prague runway, the Šestka shopping centre and the Prague Ring Road. In the future, an important transport hub with the possibility of transferring to urban and suburban bus transport and potentially trams as well should be established here.

In addition to the P+R car park (with a capacity of up to 2,000 parking places after expansion), a bus terminal will be built on the east and north sides above the railway stop. The design of the railway stop will undergo architectural revision in the project preparation stage.

The entire line modernisation will enable a direct connection of the international airport to the railway, travel time between the centre of Prague and the airport is expected to be around 25 minutes, the journey to Kladno should take half an hour. Správa železnic is closely coordinating the preparation of the project with Václav Havel Airport Prague.
