Správa železnic presents work on high-speed line from Prague to Dresden at InnoTrans Fair

Thanks to the international cooperation of Správa železnic and DB Netz with the EGTC support, the project of the New railway connection Dresden – Prague is represented at the InnoTrans Railway Transport and Technology Fair. The joint presentation stand in the hall 7.2b presents visitors with the current status of work on the new high-speed line, its benefits, the way of connection to the Czech and German railway infrastructure and specific aspects of cross-border preparation.

A model of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) is on display at the joint stand. It is this technology that will enable the construction of the Krušnohorský tunel (Ore Mountain Tunnel), which is the key and most complex construction on the Prague – Dresden section. Models of train units are also on display, guiding the history, present and future of the Via Vindobona rail link, which connects three main capitals of Central Europe.

The designers are already working on the preparation of the technical design in the detail of documentation for zoning decisions on the sections of the VRT Podřipsko (HSL Říp Hill Flatlands) and the Krušnohorský tunel (Ore Mountains Tunnel). Most of the line is designed for a speed of 320 km/h with exclusive passenger service. However, part of it will also be used by freight traffic. The travel time between Prague and Dresden will be reduced from the current 2.5 hours to 60 minutes once the line is completed. Not only a significant part of the population of the Central Bohemia Region, but especially that of the Ústí nad Labem Region, will notice the speed increase of transport thanks to the connection of the high-speed infrastructure with the existing railway network. Správa železnic expects the construction of the first section to start in 2027.
