Station in Bubny is getting its shape, connecting flyovers are being created
The Minister of Transport Martin Kupka accompanied by the Director General of Správa železnic Jiří Svoboda examined the construction today as part of the inspection day.
“Compared to last year, we can see huge progress and there is no doubt that everything will be completed next year,” says Minister of Transport Martin Kupka and adds: “The new Praha-Bubny station is currently part of one of the most important investments on the Czech railway network, a modern connection between the centre of Prague, Václav Havel Airport and Kladno. Passengers will be able to transfer directly to metro C line and conveniently transfer to trams. It is also important that the station is part of the plans for the future new Bubny-Zátory district.”
In the building with total dimensions of 250 x 50 metres, concrete is being poured for the columns and ceilings. The builders use special admixtures to lighten the conventional concrete. Similar technology will be used, for example, in the construction of the Dvorecký Bridge in Prague's Podolí quarter. During the concreting of the ceiling slab on each of the five levels, workers will place 1,450 cubic metres of concrete in the formwork.
Three double-track flyovers will connect to the new building, located a few hundred metres from the original one. On the two smaller ones, 197 metres long, the substructure and the supporting structure, including the prestressing, are completely finished. Work is underway on the insulation and cornices. The largest flyover is almost 559 metres long. Here, too, the substructure is already completely finished. The supporting structure is being built on its individual parts.
“Bubenská Street is undergoing a complete reconstruction and road traffic will return to it during the holidays. The railway level crossing with the smallest possible identification number 1 will be replaced by an flyover. Its completion will allow smoother and safer passage through this part of Prague,” says Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic.
Platforms and roofing are being constructed at the future stop at Výstaviště, and work is also underway on the railway substructure and retaining and frame walls.
The construction also includes a pedestrian footbridge, which will allow easier access for the inhabitants of Letná to the future Praha-Výstaviště bus stop, while the route to Stromovka will be shortened. Here the complete underground construction is completed. The supporting steel structure is under construction and should be installed by the end of June.
In cooperation with the Prague City Council and the Prague 7 district, an asphalt path for pedestrians and cyclists is being built, which will connect Holešovice and the so-called Little Berlin in the place of Veletržní and Dělnická Streets after many years. It will open to the public at the end of September.
The contractors are the companies Metrostav TBR, OHLA ŽS and Elektrizace železnic Praha. The estimated total cost of the construction is CZK 4.679 billion and its completion is planned for July 2026. Test operation of trains on the reconstructed section will start next year in August.
The project called Modernisation of the line Praha-Bubny (incl.) – Praha-Výstaviště (incl.) is co-financed by the EU from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme. National financing is provided by Státní fond dopravní infrastruktury (State Fund for Transport Infrastructure).
The entire railway modernisation project from Prague to Kladno with the connection to Václav Havel Airport is divided into more than ten constructions. The Negrelli Viaduct was reconstructed between 2017 and 2020. The reconstruction of the line between Kladno and Kladno-Ostrovec stations began in 2022, followed last year by the reconstruction of the section between Bubny and Výstaviště. The modernisation of the Masaryk Railway Station is also underway. At the same time, Správa železnic is looking for a contractor for the works between Praha-Ruzyně and Kladno, and the tender for the designer of the section from Výstaviště to Dejvice is about to be announced.Soubory ke stažení
