SŽDC Will Complete Reconstruction of More than 80 Station Buildings up to 2022

Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) intensely prepares reconstructions and repairs of more passenger buildings throughout the Czech Republic. Construction works on sixty station buildings at minimum will result in higher comfort and travelling culture including modern dispatch premises and barrier-free access. SŽDC thus fulfils the Programme declaration of the government from June last year precisely in the field of station buildings’ repairs and reconstructions.

Up to 2022, we plan to complete 82 repairs and reconstructions of station buildings altogether. 13 station buildings were already renovated, 26 further reconstructions are in their implementation phase with a term of completion up to the end of 2020. At the same time, SŽDC prepares documentation for a building permit or an application for issuing a territorial decision for 49 more constructions“, said Mr. Jiří Svoboda, Director General of SŽDC.

Quite recently, extensive repairs of Kolín railway station were completed. This station with 19,000 passengers is the most frequented one in Central Bohemia. At present, reconstructions of passenger buildings are also under way at Frenštát pod Radhoštěm, Havířov, Křižanov, Šternberk or Přerov. Reconstruction of the Fanta building facade at Prague Main station started as well. Repairs of large historical station buildings highly expected by the public at České Budějovice, Plzeň or Pardubice are also in preparation.

Works will start at České Budějovice next May. The listed building will be completely renovated to become a worthy gateway to the South Bohemian capital. Together with the passenger building repairs, a revitalization of adjoining outside premises is also expected.

In 2020, a complete renovation of the historical building at Plzeň Main station as a listed building should be launched as well. The reconstruction has as objective to return the station building its architectonically valued original shape. However, passengers will be also taken into account during repairs so that they can look forward to a more pleasant interior and a high offer of services on the station hall.

Another important investment is prepared by SŽDC in Pardubice. The unique building of the local main station will experience complete reconstruction including a new dispositional solution of internal premises and building escalators to the underpass.
