The Budget of Správa železnic Increased by More than Four Billion Czech Crowns

The Committee of the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure approved a change of the total sum of resources for 2020 for Správa železnic. It concerns an increase of CZK 4.2 billion in total; the original sum of CZK 39.2 billion thus rose to CZK 43.4 billion.

We managed to increase the budget of our organization thanks to a clearly declared support of our government which is aware that railway transport plays a strategic role within the whole Czech Republic. Therefore it considers the development of the railway as one of its main priorities“, said Mr. Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic.

The increase mentioned above will show i.a. in the non-investment field to strengthen resources for repairs and maintenance of railway lines. In case of non-investment resources, it represents a sum of CZK 1.85 billion and consists in its whole of domestic resources.

The remaining sum of approximately CZK 2.4 billion will be used for strengthening investments. This sum consists both of national resources (almost CZK 1 billion) and EU resources, approximately from two-thirds from the Operational Programme Transport and from one-third from the Connecting Europe Facility Programme (CEF).

In the field of investments, the increased resources will be used especially to start new constructions which were not covered by the budget. This concerns e.g. the following constructions:

  • Electrification of the line Brno – Zastávka u Brna including pre-electrification adaptations, 1st stage
  • GSM-R Chomutov – Cheb
  • GSM-R Ústí nad Labem – Chomutov
  • ETCS Beroun – Plzeň
  • Building the overtaking station Bartoušov
  • Revitalization of the line Chlumec nad Cidlinou – Trutnov
  • ETCS Mosty u Jablunkova – Dětmarovice
  • Modernization of the Pardubice railway junction
  • Reconstruction of R110 kV at Jablunkov traction substation.

A part of increased resources for investments will be used to strengthen financing of constructions already launched, e.g. Increasing line speed in the section Valašské Meziříčí – Hustopeče nad Bečvou or Track adaptations at Žďár nad Sázavou railway station.

The strengthened budget of Správa železnic will also allow fulfilling the rather ambitious plan of passenger buildings’ repairs and reconstructions.
