Trains Can Use ETCS System in Line Section from Český Brod to Praha-Uhříněves

Správa železnic continues to implement the pan-European Train Control System (ETCS) on its network. Its installation has also been completed in the line section from Český Brod to Praha-Uhříněves. This was the first phase of work within the investment project called ETCS Kralupy nad Vltavou – Praha – Kolín. The contractor of the construction is the company AŽD.

This investment action of Správa železnic is based on the ETCS National Implementation Plan. Due to other parallel and conditional constructions, it was divided into four phases. In the first phase, the section Český Brod (incl.) – Praha-Běchovice – Praha-Uhříněves (incl.) was equipped with the ETCS level L2 system. Specifically, these are the stations Český Brod, Úvaly, Praha-Běchovice, Praha-Malešice, Praha-Hostivař and Praha-Uhříněves. The construction was completed on 25 October 2020. Work on other sections will continue in connection with the completion of modernisation projects on the railway infrastructure.

In the first implemented line section, modifications were made to the existing station and open line interlocking equipment, which ensure the transmission of information on the track-clearing of sections or the condition of routes and level crossings to the RBC radio block centres. A total of two RBCs were built here.

Open line and station tracks are equipped with fixed eurobalises, which are used to transmit information between the trackside and the on-board ETCS parts. In the first stage, there are a total of 682 balises. The necessary adjustments were also made to the Traffic Control Centre in Prague.

In the line section Český Brod – railway junction Praha, the project is co-financed by the EU from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program. The estimated total cost is CZK 327,720,348 excluding VAT. The EU subsidy rate is 85 % of the eligible costs. The amount of the subsidy amounts to a maximum of EUR 3,320,906, i.e. approximately CZK 86,347,009. Funding from national sources is provided by Státní fond dopravní infrastruktury (State Fund for Transport Infrastructure).
