30.03.2016

Prague, 30 March 2016 – Ústí nad Orlicí railway station as well as connecting line sections have undergone a reconstruction. The three-year restriction concerned especially a speed increase. Trains can now pass the station at speeds up to 160 kph. The investor of this construction investor was the Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC), the supplier EUROVIA CS.

Besides a maximum line speed increase, security and safety equipment (interlocking), the catenary and power feeding was modernised during the construction. Newly constructed buildings serve for handling passengers and for traffic control.

”Passengers can now use two heightened central platforms with four boarding edges 1.350 metres long. For safety increase, an underpass with two elevators leads to the platforms so that barrier-free access is assured to all of them“, said Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of the Railway Infrastructure Administration.

“Reconstruction of the Ústí nad Orlicí junction was very extensive. We perceive the total run of works as positive and we believe that their assets and travelling comfort increase in this locality will be appreciated especially by passengers”, said Mr. Michael Gelo, Director of the Railway constructions plant on behalf of the EUROVIA CS company.

One railway crossing on the local communication leading to Kerhartice was closed during reconstruction. It has been replaced by an underpass for pedestrians and cyclists, connecting two parts of the cycle route Ústí nad Orlicí – Choceň and at the same time solving the crossing with the railway line. For automobiles, access is assured thanks to a flyover above Tichá Orlice River with a connecting road to Ústí nad Orlicí Station.

In order to increase anti-flood protection, the line in the locality has been relocated. It is ensured now by a system of three bridges over Třebovka River, over the road No II/315 and over the confluence of Třebovka River with Tichá Orlice River including the construction of supporting walls. This enabled a general rectification and speed increase in this section of the Praha – Česká Třebová railway line.

Total estimated costs of the construction designated as Passing the Ústí nad Orlicí railway junction amounted up to 1,142,885,093 CZK (VAT excluded). The investor was the Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organisation. The project was approved for co-financing by the European Union under the Operational Programme Transport, the planned contribution amount from the Cohesion Fund amounts up to 763,623,973 CZK.
