Another important station in metropolis awaits reconstruction, Smíchov station will be completely transformed

Modernisation of two large railway stations in Prague will start soon. After Prague Masaryk railway station (Praha Masarykovo nádraží), Správa železnic is now looking for a construction contractor also for Praha-Smíchov station. The result will be completely modernised tracks and platforms, extended pedestrian underpasses under the whole station and also a new footbridge that will lead over the whole station and allow barrier-free access to individual platforms. The construction will be implemented between 2024 and 2027 at a total cost of CZK 5.2 billion.

The reconstruction of Smíchov station is divided into several phases. The first stage, which has already begun, will include the removal of part of the tracks and the footbridge over the entire track facility. The second stage, for which a construction contractor is now being sought, includes a complete reconstruction of the track facility, the renovation of three existing platforms and the construction of a new fourth platform, which will be used mainly by trains on the route of the so-called Prague Semmering, i.e. in the direction of Praha-Zličín and Hostivice.

The builders will also reconstruct both existing pedestrian underpasses and extend them under the entire station track facility. They will be connected to the future parking house, the investor of which is the capital city of Prague. Of course, barrier-free access will be provided by lifts. The bridge over Nádražní Street will be a three-track bridge after the completion of the works, so that its capacity will correspond to the adjoining, in the future also three-track railway bridge at Výtoň. The works will also include the construction of a new footbridge to Radlická Street, which will also allow access to individual platforms and a connection to the new district created as part of the Smíchov City project.

Another immediately related construction will be the construction of the modern terminal Smíchov, which is also being prepared by the Prague City Hall. Správa železnic plans to start the reconstruction of the Smíchov station building in 2026.

Implementation of the construction project Reconstruction of Praha-Smíchov railway station is approved for co-financing by the European Union from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
