First Phase of Reconstruction of Station Building at Teplice v Čechách Station To Begin

Reconstruction of the extensive passenger building at Teplice v Čechách station can begin. Správa železnic has selected the contractor for the first phase of the works, which includes the repair of the facade and the adjacent platform. The winner of the tender is the company Chládek & Tintěra, Litoměřice, which offered the best price of CZK 236.1 million. The implementation is expected to start this July; the completion of the first stage of work is planned in less than two years.

Current station building in the spa town under the Ore Mountains dates back to 1856. The large building was built in Neo-Romanesque style and at that time, it was also the headquarters of the private Ústí-Teplice Railway. The listed building no longer meets current requirements, therefore Správa železnic has decided for its complete reconstruction.

In the first phase, the roofs, including the roof trusses and the entire facade, will be restored. All windows and doors will also be replaced. Furthermore, the works will include the reconstruction of the 1st platform, which will be designed in a barrier-free way with a raised platform edge. The historic roofing of the platform and the adjacent track will be reconstructed as well.

New look of the building was designed after a thorough restoration survey and takes into account its conservation status. The building will be cleaned of poor quality period alterations and its original historic features will be re-established. It is also proposed to restore the original ochre colour of the facade combined with brick-coloured detailing, the cladding and metal elements will be dark grey. Artificial shingles and metal roofing will be replaced with stencils imitating the original slate roofing.

After completion of the first stage of reconstruction, the station building will become a representative and dignified element of this urban location. Project work on the second phase is also continuing intensively. In addition to the complete reconstruction of the station building's interior, it will include, for example, the construction of new parking areas or the modification of the transformer station with the installation of a photovoltaic power plant on its roof.
