Five Projects Moving On to Phase Two of Architectonical Contest for Veleslavín Station

The international jury of the architectonical con test for the future shape of Praha-Veleslavín railway station met for its first two-day session. The contest was announced by Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) in connection with the preparation and elaboration of the project ”Modernization and New Construction of the Line Praha-Veleslavín (included) – Praha-Letiště Václava Havla (included).

The international jury, presided by the architects Sándor Finta and Helg Lunder was choosing from 22 projects of very good quality. After a long discussion, it selected five projects to move on to Phase Two; their authors will now complete the proposed designs and hand them over to the jury up to 19 August 2019. The commission will then select a winning project from these final five and recommend it for implementation. Due to the requirement for maintaining anonymity of each designer, the projects in the contest and their designers’ names will be announced only after the final decision of the jury.

SŽDC is aware of its responsibility as transport infrastructure investor; therefore the project includes also relations to the station’s surroundings and the surroundings as such which is a necessity in the capital city urban area“, said Mr. Jiří Svoboda, Director General of SŽDC.

The contest was announced at the beginning of February and is being prepared in cooperation with the Capital City of Prague. A part of components from the winning architectonical project will be used for unifying components at other stations and stops on the line Praha – Kladno as well.
