Investments in Rail Network in 2021

Completion of 92 kilometres of modernised lines, the commencement and continuation of modernisation and reconstruction of railway lines and stations, further steps in the preparation of the construction of the first HSR sections or the reconstruction and repair of station buildings with an emphasis on their barrier-free accessibility. This is the year just ending from the point of view of Správa železnic. The infrastructure manager administered a record budget of CZK 60 billion in 2021, of which CZK 37 billion was allocated for investments.

“Thanks to the prepared projects, Správa železnic has been very successful in using financial resources from EU funds; their share in investments slightly exceeded the amount of CZK 20 billion. For the modernisation of the railway infrastructure in the Czech Republic we used 99.9% of all European grant funding available,” stated Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic. Across all financial sources, 99.8% of the available funds were used for the modernisation of the railway infrastructure.

Key constructions include mainly projects on the first railway corridor, such as the modernisation of the Pardubice junction, the reconstruction of the railway line between Brandýs nad Orlicí and Ústí nad Orlicí or the renewal of the line between Poříčany and Velim. A few weeks ago, the implementation of three projects between Brno and Blansko began, due to which trains will not run in that section for a year. On the route of the fourth railway corridor, the sections between Votice and Sudoměřice and between Soběslav and Doubí are significantly closer to being put into operation thanks to this year's intensive construction activity. The modernisation between the Prague Main Station and Praha-Hostivař station was completed, and significant progress was achieved in two other constructions in the territory of Prague or in its immediate vicinity – reconstruction of the line between Smíchov and Radotín and modernisation of the Praha-Vysočany station and the related section to Mstětice.
