Modern sites of railway firefighters will be constructed in Cheb and Nymburk

Railway firefighters in Cheb and Nymburk will use new workplaces as early as 2025. Správa železnic intends to start the necessary construction works at the turn of this and the next year. The result will be modern sites, which will not lack training and educational facilities, areas for physical training and also adequate facilities for firefighting equipment.

Railway Fire Rescue Corps are an integral part of Správa železnic. They operate throughout the entire territory of the country and, as a part of the Integrated Rescue System, they intervene not only during incidents on the railway. To perform their demanding profession, they therefore also need the necessary facilities, which we are gradually creating for them,” says Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic.

The Cheb unit has 45 firefighters working in three-shift operation. A new two-storey building with all the necessary equipment and facilities for firefighting equipment will be available in the site in Vrázova Street. Photovoltaic panels will be placed on its roof as a part of the heating system.

On the ground floor of the building, a garage for a total of 13 vehicles, technical facilities, changing rooms and sanitary facilities will be built. It will be connected to an outdoor staging area for a recovery tank. The operations centre and administrative and social facilities for the firefighters will be placed on the second floor. The building will also include a tower for climbing training and fire sport.

The main building for more than forty firefighters in Nymburk will have a similar layout. The 18-metre-high tower, which will not only be used for drying hoses, but will also offer facilities for physical training of firefighters, including an artificial climbing wall, will be a distinctive dominant feature of the site in Nádražní Street. A car wash for firefighting vehicles and used hoses will be located next to the garage. A photovoltaic power plant will be located on the roof of the building, as in Cheb.

Správa železnic is now looking for a contractor for the construction of both buildings. The works should take place from the end of this year until the first quarter of 2025. The total cost of the construction in Cheb amounts to CZK 220 million, while in Nymburk it amounts to just under CZK 212 million.
