Modernisation of Brno-Královo Pole station is coming closer

Planned modernisation of the second busiest railway station in the South Moravian metropolis has reached its final stage. Správa železnic announced a competition for the contractor for the comprehensive reconstruction of the Brno-Královo Pole station and adjacent sections. The passenger facilities will undergo a major transformation and a modern transport terminal will be built. Construction work is expected to start this September and should be completed by the end of 2025.

The planned modernisation includes the construction of a new station building, which will also be part of the adjacent transport terminal. It will be a partly glazed and partly two-storey building. The ground floor will be used for ticket offices, commercial space and sanitary facilities. In the middle of the hall there will be escalators leading to an elevated section with benches for passengers and other commercial space. A temporary waiting room for 250 people will provide facility for the public during the construction of the new building.

The track facility in the station will undergo a major reconstruction, three through tracks will be extended by moving the track development further towards Kuřim. New platforms and their roofing will be built, and the pedestrian underpass, which will be widened and extended to connect the station forecourt with Myslínová Street, will provide off-level access to them.

There will also be a reconstruction of the line track in the section from Brno-Maloměřice to Kuřim. The comfort of passengers will be improved by a new information and orientation system not only directly at the station in Královo Pole, but also at the stops Brno-Lesná, Brno-Rečkovice and Česká.

The construction will also include the rehabilitation of 13 bridges, 10 culverts, a road overpass and five retaining walls. The station will also get new signalling equipment. The reconstruction of the railway substructure and superstructure will enable to pass the station at a speed of 120 km/h.

The estimated value of the contract is CZK 2,618,072,443. The total investment costs of the project amount to CZK 2.9 billion.

The station Brno-Královo Pole is one of the most important transport points in terms of railway as well as urban and suburban transport. In addition to the connection with Vysočina Region, trains provide services to the still developing municipalities of the Tišnov area, and for a large part of commuters, the Královo Pole station is the gateway to the regional metropolis.
