Modernisation of Havířov station has its contractor

Another important station of the Moravian-Silesian Region will undergo an extensive transformation. Správa železnic will follow up on the renovation of the station hall and will completely reconstruct the entire station area, including platforms and barrier-free access to them. The construction works will be carried out by the association of companies Subterra, OHLA ŽS, Elektrizace železnice Praha and AŽD Praha. The total value of the contract amounts to CZK 3.4 billion and the works will start in September this year.

The modernisation of Havířov station is a key project that will enable a significant improvement of public transport in the area. After the reconstruction, trains will be able to run in the direction from Ostrava up to the Havířov střed stop. One of the most important aspects of the modernisation is to ensure full barrier-free accessibility. Passengers will have access to the new platforms without any difficulties, even people with reduced mobility. We will extend the pedestrian underpass to the local district of Šumbark, thus removing the existing barrier that the railway presents here,” explains Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic.

Within the modernisation, the railway superstructure and substructure, bridges and culverts will also be reconstructed as a complex. These steps are essential to increase traffic safety and ensure smooth traffic flow. The planned installation of new signalling and telecommunication equipment will reduce the risk of untoward incidents and ensure the highest level of passenger safety.

The construction also includes a complete renewal of the overhead line, which will enable a future switchover from DC to AC power. This will lead to more efficient and environmentally friendly train operation.

The value of the construction works is CZK 3,398,568,539. The contractor of the construction is an association of companies Subterra, OHLA ŽS, Elektrizace železnice Praha and AŽD.

The project Optimisation of the line section Havířov (incl.) – Havířov střed stop (excl.) will be co-funded by the European Union from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The expected amount of the subsidy is up to CZK 2.2 billion. National funding will be provided by Státní fond dopravní infrastruktury (State Fund for Transport Infrastructure).
