Modernisation of Prague's Masaryk Station receives building permit

Major modernisation of the Praha Masarykovo nádraží (Prague Masaryk station) has completed another important step in its preparation. Správa železnic has obtained a final building permit. In spring 2023, a tender for a contractor will be launched, and the construction work should begin within the year. It will be finished by 2026. The project includes, among other things, the extension of the current number of tracks from seven to nine, the reconstruction of all platforms and the construction of a new roof platform above the track facility, which will remove barriers in the area, allow access to individual platforms and offer a direct transfer to metro line B.

The Prague Masaryk railway station, located right in the centre of Prague, is the second busiest station on the Czech railway network. The aim of the extensive modifications that Správa železnic is planning is to bring passengers a comfort that corresponds to today's times. In particular, the number of platforms and tracks will be expanded and the station area will be urbanistically integrated into its surroundings. A new platform will be created especially for future trains to the airport. A new roof platform above the track facility will remove barriers in the area. It will not only form a communication link between Florenc and Hybernská Street, and the Masaryk station and the main railway station, but will also offer a new vestibule for waiting passengers. From there, escalators, stairs and lifts will lead directly to individual platforms. Part of the platform will be planted with greenery, creating a quiet oasis in the centre of the metropolis.

There will be a total of six barrier-free platforms in the station. The track facility, all technologies, the overhead line equipment and power supply will undergo reconstruction. The construction will be carried out during operation, only partial traffic restrictions corresponding to the individual stages of the project implementation will be necessary.

The reconstruction of Masaryk railway station is part of the modernisation of the railway line from the centre of Prague to Kladno. It is divided into several stages. Last year, work began on two sections, namely the section from Kladno to Kladno-Ostrovec and the line between the station Praha-Bubny and the future new stop Praha-Výstaviště.
