Modernization of Tracks to Černošice and Electrification of the Line to Hustopeče u Brna Can Start

This week, Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) signed contracts with suppliers of two important investments on its network in a total value of almost CZK 5 billion. An optimization of the line section between the stations Praha Smíchov and Černošice will practically start the reconstruction of an important suburban railway line from Prague to Beroun. In South Moravia, the perspective regional railway line from Šakvice to Hustopeče u Brna will be modernized and electrified.

Optimization of the line Praha Smíchov – Černošice
The former of the constructions mentioned above is a reconstruction of a line section almost nine kilometres long situated mostly on the territory of our capital city. The construction will include an optimization of operational parameters to a quality being currently required, which will improve transport smoothness and safety and ensure operation reliability. Speed will increase up to 100 – 130 kph for normal trains and 120 - 140 kph for tilting trains. When works are completed, the whole section will be equipped with a new catenary.

The project’s objective is not only a total reconstruction of line sections but also of Praha-Radotín Station. The railway stop Praha-Velká Chuchle will acquire quite new platforms and it will be moved closer to the built-in area.  All platforms will be accessible to passengers with limited mobility and orientation; therefore, lifts will be built at Praha-Radotín Station. The branching line to the Praha-Vršovice marshalling yard will also be rebuilt and reconstructed up to the exit from Chuchle Tunnel.

The construction supplier is the association of companies EUROVIA CS, STRABAG Rail, GJV Praha and Elektrizace železnic Praha. Total estimated investment costs will amount up to CZK 3.1 billion. Works should be completed in September 2021.

Modernization and electrification of the line Šakvice – Hustopeče u Brna
The line Šakvice – Hustopeče u Brna will undergo quite an important change by its modernization and electrification. This will allow introducing a connection from Hustopeče to the Moravian capital centre without the necessity of changing trains. Today, passenger trains run on this line only on working days with a maximum speed of 60 kph. The same speed will be used by electrical trainsets to the terminus station Hustopeče u Brna; they will be able to accelerate between stations up to 85 kph.

In Hustopeče, two platforms with an edge length of 170 metres will be built. Passengers will have a new information system at their disposal a new information system. Safety equipment Category 3 will be installed at the station, controlled remotely from the Traffic Control Centre CDP Přerov. Trackage at Šakvice Station will also undergo necessary repairs. Thanks to the modifications mentioned above, passengers will be able to ride by train from Hustopeče right to the centre of Brno in 35 minutes.

The construction’s supplier is the association of companies Subterra, OHL ŽS, FIRESTA-Fišer, rekonstrukce, stavby and Elektrizace železnic Praha. Total estimated investment costs amount to CZK 1.6 billion. Works should be completed in December next year.
