New electronic boards at railway stations improve passenger information

Správa železnic is increasing the awareness of passengers waiting for the departure of their train or changing trains. It is now placing screens with current train departures in the pedestrian underpasses of busy stations. Another improvement in this area is the installation of a new type of information boards, which also displays the order of individual carriages in the train set on the platforms and thus helps passengers to find their reserved seat better.

The screens with current train departures are installed in underpasses in stations with higher passenger frequency and more exits to the platform. This means that passengers do not have to go all the way to the check-in hall to get information about the departure of their next train. People with reduced mobility will also appreciate the new boards.

The screens are currently located, for example, in the underpasses of Prague Main Station, Pardubice Main Station, České Budějovice, Praha-Vysočany, Roudnice nad Labem, Roztoky u Prahy or Brandýs nad Orlicí.

Another novelty are the information boards, which, in addition to the usual information about a given connection, also display the current train set composition. At the end of July this year, the first of them started to be tested on the platforms in České Budějovice. Close cooperation with the carriers is necessary for the proper functioning of the entire facility. Therefore, Správa železnic has created a special application through which the information of the train set composition is entered and then displayed on the screens. The same system will subsequently be installed at Pardubice main station.

Passengers can encounter another innovation at the stops on the line from Havlíčkův Brod to Humpolec. These are information boards using paper with electronic ink. This energy-saving technology works similarly to e-book readers.

Správa železnic is working on replacing paper signboards with electronic ones. This will enable to provide passengers at railway stations not only with up-to-date information about train operation, but also about capacity restrictions or possible emergencies.
