Nymburk station in a new look, architectural competition winner is known

Reconstruction of the main station in Nymburk, which is being prepared by Správa železnic, will be designed by architect Tomáš Hanus. The expert committee of the architectural-urban competition unanimously chose his solution among 17 participants. They appreciated especially the simple, clean design and the sensitive interconnection of the new buildings with the historical buildings.

The architectural-urban design competition for the best design of the Nymburk main station was announced by Správa železnic last October. The competitors had to design a new check-in hall, a suitable reconstruction of the historic station, the adjoining bus station and the adjacent public space. A total of 17 architectural studios submitted their concepts, five of which advanced to the second phase of the competition.

The five-member expert jury then unanimously selected the best solution by architect Tomáš Hanus, which he created in collaboration with his colleague Jan Holub. The second place belongs to the Architekt Ondřej Tuček atelier, the third place went to the company G. L. Architekti.

According to the jury, the greatest strength of the winning design is its dignified architectural design, its clarity and interconnectedness with its surroundings. The main area and the bus station are located outside the square itself, along the track facilities, which made it possible to create a coherent public space with an adjacent park. Such a solution will ensure fast check-in, good orientation in the area, passenger safety and thus increase the attractiveness of public transport.
