Railway Line from Železný Brod to Tanvald Awaiting Repairs

As of beginning of September 2019, the railway line section between Železný Brod and Tanvald will be undergoing complex repairs. Besides works on the railway superstructure, Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) will also adapt platforms at Velké Hamry Station and at three more railway stops. A continuous line closure will begin on 2 September; at the same time, operation will be restricted in the connection section leading to Harrachov as well due to a reconstruction of several bridges.

A continuous closure in the line section Železný Brod – Tanvald will take place from 2 September up to 30 November. During this period, a continuous change of rails and wooden sleepers will be carried out to replace the steel ones with a Y shape. Track geometry will also be repaired as well as the continuous welded rail which will be constructed at other sites too

The project includes also repairs of seven bridges, a same number of culverts and one abutment wall. Repairs of crossing constructions at six railway crossings including the railway substructure are planned too. Besides that, the dewatering system will also be renewed. A positive factor for passengers will be the adaptation of current platforms at Velké Hamry Station and at railway stops Spálov, Jesenný and Návarov.

After the construction’s completion next May, line speed for some types of vehicles will increase up to 75 kph. In this connection, signalling equipment will be also adapted. The total value of all works will amount up to CZK 409 million.

Together with the operation restriction mentioned above, closures will occur also in the connecting line section in direction to Poland. It will happen first on 2 - 6 September between Tanvald and Harrachov, following that on 6 - 21 September between Tanvald and Kořenov and finally on 21 September - 31 October in the line section Desná – Dolní Polubný. The main reason for stopping operation will be a reconstruction of two railway bridges in Desná and sanitation of a rock set-off near the local railway station. Moreover, one sleeper will be repaired at Kořenov during the first closure.
