Reconstruction of Čelákovice Station Near Completion

After more than two years of works, the reconstruction of Čelákovice railway station is coming to an end. The construction, having been the first of the investments set on the line Prague – Lysá nad Labem, was festively completed today by Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC). The supplier was the company Elektrizace železnic Praha.

”Reconstructing Čelákovice railway station was the first phase of optimizing the whole section from Lysá nad Labem to Praha-Vysočany which was divided into several parts by SŽDC as investor. This May, a building site of another stage in the connecting section to Lysá nad Labem was handed over and a tender for a construction supplier in the line section Mstětice – Praha-Vysočany was launched“, said Mr. Jiří Svoboda, Director General of SŽDC.

The total station reconstruction started in January 2017. Its main objective was to build one centre platform and two side platforms as well as two underpasses for pedestrians and cyclists on the connecting way station building – Kozovazská Street and Kollárova – Mochovská – Čelakovského streets.

The reconstructed section is 1,850 metres long; the trackage was gradually dismantled including the catenary, seven electrified tracks of various lengths were newly built. Two new underpasses connected by roads with footbridges and provided with barrier-free access and lifts will lead passengers from several directions onto three platforms.

Besides adaption of the railway superstructure and substructure with dewatering, works included a reconstruction of bridges, building a new signalling footbridge and modern signalling and safety equipment including a power supply from distribution cables. Moreover, the construction included adaptations of premises for the station dispatchers, building roofing for passengers, installing an information, camera and orientation system, radio equipment and fences assuring the function of anti-noise barriers at the same time. New furniture was added as well.

The historical passenger building was reconstructed too; the project was completed by building a bike-tower and adapting premises of the former restaurant which wait for a new tenant. Under an architect’s guidance, parts of the building were adjusted and coated in part to hide air-conditioning units or recycle bins.

The new bike-tower offers space for up to 118 bikes in 13 layers. This installation will be equipped with a charging system for electro-bikes with an option of storing personal things in a safety box. For the first time at all, SŽDC assured these services for passengers within a railway station modernization.

The construction supplier was the company Elektrizace železnic Praha with subcontractors - the companies AŽD Praha, Metrostav, Swietelsky Rail CZ, mm cite or OK stavby. Total investment costs amounted to CZK 682,904,833 (VAT excluded). The project is co-financed by the EU from its Connecting Europe Facility Programme (CEF). The maximum EU support rate amounts to 83.07% of total eligible costs. National financing is assured by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
