Reconstruction of the Vsetín station moves to the very city centre

Future common check-in terminal, which will replace the existing station building, is growing rapidly in Vsetín. A new technological building is built in the station area and the foundations of a multi-storey car park are being concreted. While last year was mainly marked by the reconstruction of the tracks towards Velké Karlovice, this year will see the modernisation of the track facility, the construction of a terminal and a pedestrian underpass directly in the station.

The large-scale reconstruction of the Vsetín station is becoming more and more visible every day in the very centre of the town. Within two months, the rough construction of a new transport terminal for rail and bus transport has been erected in the vicinity of the station building. The future two-storey glass building will offer passengers adequate comfort. It should be ready by the end of this year, and at the same time, we will build a pedestrian underpass from the terminal, which will exit behind the railway track facility in the local part Na Lapači. In August we will also start the removal of the existing station building so that by the end of the year we will be able to manage all the necessary related construction work,” Miroslav Bocák, Director of the Construction Management East, explains on behalf of Správa železnic. For a period of five months, i.e. until the end of the year, there will be temporary passenger check-in areas with the necessary facilities in the car park close to the existing station building.

In mid-February, construction also moved directly to the station track facility. We are coordinating the completion of the track facility with the completion of the terminal and the new pedestrian underpass. During the reconstruction, we will provide passengers with temporary platforms and safe access to them. We expect that from the end of December they will be able to use the new terminal, the pedestrian underpass and all the new platforms,” adds Miroslav Bocák. The reconstruction will not significantly affect train traffic. The restriction will consist in a reduced number of tracks for trains to access.

This January, the level crossing in U Křivačkárny Street was also cancelled. In mid-March, work will start on the pedestrian underpass, which will then fully replace the crossing in Štěpánská Street. Therefore, a new road with a bridge over the Rokytenka Stream is also being built between these streets, which will serve both cars and pedestrians. The full completion is expected in June next year, when the crossing in Štěpánská Street will be cancelled.

The project is co-financed by the European Union from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). National funding is provided by the SFDI (State Fund for Transport Infrastructure). The total investment costs of the construction amount to CZK 3,376,323,986.
