Reconstruction of Vsetín Station Begins

Správa železnic has selected a contractor that will carry out a complete reconstruction of Vsetín station within three years. The construction with the total cost of over CZK 3 billion will be carried out by the association consisting of OHL ŽS, STRABAG Rail and AŽD. The change of the track facility configuration will replace the inadequate level platforms in the curve with new ones, which will have a standard height of 550 millimetres above the track and barrier-free access. A common terminal for rail and bus transport will be used for passenger check-in.

Vsetín station currently has eight level double-sided platforms made of panels. One new outer platform with a length of 350 metres and variable width is designed, which will become a tongue platform in the direction to Horní Lideč. Furthermore, an island platform of the same length will be created, to which passengers will access via a new pedestrian underpass. Barrier-free access will be provided by lifts. As part of the track modifications, not only the station track facility itself will be changed, but also the interconnection to the line to Velké Karlovice.

Due to a major change in the overall track layout at Vsetín station, a new transport terminal will replace the existing station building. It will serve for the needs of passengers of train and bus transport and for providing operational facilities of the railway station.

The terminal will have two aboveground and one underground floor; it will be connected to the adjacent underpass. The main waiting areas for passengers will be located in the departure hall on the first floor. They will be directly connected to the ticket offices. On the top floor above the ticket offices, there will be facilities for employees, including changing rooms. In the basement of the building, there will be technological rooms and sanitary facilities for passengers. An open staircase with a lift and escalators will connect the premises.

In cooperation with the town council, a parking house will be built to serve the needs of passengers and solve the issue of parking in the centre of Vsetín at the same time. Two pedestrian underpasses will also be built as part of the construction. One will lead not only to the new platforms, but will also connect the town centre with the local part of Na Lapači. The second one will replace the existing pedestrian crossing in Štěpánská Street and the level crossing in U Křivačkárny Street, which will be cancelled.

The estimated total investment cost of the construction called Reconstruction of the railway station Vsetín amount to CZK 3,376,329,987 without VAT. The project is proposed for co-financing by the European Union from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). National financing is provided by Státní fond dopravní infrastruktury (State Fund for Transport Infrastructure).
