Renovated Station Building in Litvínov Serves Not Only Train Passengers

Today, Správa železnic held an opening ceremony of the renovated passenger building in the railway station Litvínov, which should also serve as facility of the newly built transport terminal. The premises of the passenger building have been redesigned entirely and they are aside from that wheelchair accessible. In addition to the facade, the public spaces have also undergone a significant alteration. The renovation works have taken a year and were coordinated with the municipality of Litvínov, the investor and owner of the terminal.

“Our goal was to create an urban-type station. The new look of the station building, which now features a ventilated perimeter cladding as well as a modern interior design of the ground floor including a glass walled waiting area, contributed to this,” says Director General of Správa železnic Jiří Svoboda.

The builders replaced roof, windows and doors, passengers will appreciate new sanitary facilities and counters of railway and bus undertakings merged into one section. New LCD screens inform about departures and arrivals of the respective connections.

Facilities of a bus undertaking have been established in the first floor of the building, which aside from an office and a resting room for drivers also include a separate lavatory. Social facilities have been moved to the completely refurbished housing premises, where the heating system has been replaced as well.

A part of the new transport terminal are among other features more than 50 parking places. Passengers will find here spaces reserved for taxis, several K+R spaces and bicycle boxes. “We are pleased that we managed to combine such challenging projects like transformation of the station building, construction of the transport terminal and renewal of the tram line in the area of the terminal. We regret that the coordination of all these tasks caused an extension of traffic restrictions, I believe however, the modernisation of the complete area will outweigh the discomfort,” the second vice-mayor of Litvínov Karel Rosenbaum remarked. He added that the municipality has set a number of other goals: “We plan to continue the modernisation of the tram lines in the city. In addition to that, we consider relocating of the railway line to Most so that only one railway station is necessary in Litvínov.”

The contractor of the passenger building in the railway station Litvínov was STRABAG Rail. Construction works were realised from October 2020 until last November and the total cost reached the amount of CZK 23.6 million.

The passenger building repair followed on the revitalisation of the railway line from Oldřichov u Duchcova to Litvínov, which Správa železnic completed in the middle of last year. Its subject was, besides the increase in the line speed up to 100 km/h, the electrification of the last section from Louky u Litvínova to Litvínov, which brings the citizens of this municipality a direct connection to many important centres of the region Ústí nad Labem. This is provided by modern electric trains now.
