Routes for Future HSL Pilot Sections Measured by Geodesists

Preparation of pilot sections for the high-speed line (HSL) between Prague, Brno and Ostrava made another important step forward. Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) concluded contracts for carrying out geodetic bearing of the sections Prosenice – Ostrava-Svinov (VRT MORAVSKÁ BRÁNA –HSL MORAVIAN GATE) and Modřice – Šakvice (VRT JIŽNÍ MORAVA – HSL SOUTH MORAVIA). These concern preparation of geodetic documentation for 70 / 30 kilometres of lines.

Immediately after the contracts’ signing, geodesists left onto the site, both ton current lines and to the route of the future ones between Přerov and Ostrava as well as between Brno and Vranovice. Works in the field will be carried out during autumn months; SŽDC will have detailed maps for the whole length of the South Moravian section till the end of the year.

The elaboration of geodetic bearing in advance before ordering documentation for issuing a decision on locating a construction is a step which will allow decreasing the preparation period of HSL pilot sections up to five years compared to standard procedures“, says Mr. Jiří Svoboda, Director General of SŽDC.

SŽDC acts in a similar way also for the remaining pilot section Praha-Běchovice – Poříčany (VRT POLABÍ – HSL POLABÍ) and a part of the connection Dresden – Prague for which a tender is currently ongoing.

The implementation of HSL pilot sections will be an important contribution to a capacity increase on currently highly frequently railway lines which applies especially for the Czech Rail Transit Corridor II section from Přerov to Ostrava. At the same time, trains’ speed will increase as trains of different categories will not have to overtake each other anymore and journey times will not have to be extended due to high use of the lines. The construction of the first HSL pilot section should start in 2025.
