Správa železnic Has Completed Architectural Study of Praha východ HSR Terminal

The first high-speed railway (HSR) terminal Praha východ (Prague East) has a new, modified appearance. In cooperation with the contractor, Správa železnic has completed an architectural study of this future major transport hub. Work on the documentation for the zoning decision is still underway.

Completion of the competition design is a common part of the design process for transport structures. The contractors have incorporated comments of local authorities from consultations held by the HSR preparation team. Suggestions made by colleagues from SNCF, the French national railways, who have a lot of experience with terminal operations, were also taken into account. Finally yet importantly, the proposal has been amended due to the ongoing work on the documentation for the zoning decision for the section VRT Polabí (HSR Elbe Flatlands), in which Praha východ Terminal will be built.

All modifications were made in accordance with the requirements of Správa železnic for a modern high-speed railway terminal. For example, the architects and engineers designed a new northern entrance to the transit hub that will improve walk-in accessibility of the terminal from the village of Nehvizdy. There are new footbridges, too, for easier access to the platforms from the car park. These will also ensure a comfortable transit between trains for passengers. The terminal is more spacious compared to the original design in order to have sufficient capacity for the transport demand. Waiting areas will also be built on the platforms.

The terminal will also offer more comfortable travelling for cyclists. In addition to cycle stands, it will be equipped with lockable boxes and facilities for charging electric bikes. The designers have not forgotten about motorists either, who will have an electric car charging station at every fifth parking space.

Work continues on the documentation for the zoning decision, which, same as the architectural study, is being prepared by the association “MP+ov Nehvizdy 2020”, consisting of METROPROJEKT Praha a.s. and the architectural office ov architekti s.r.o. The documentation for the HSR terminal will subsequently be incorporated into the documentation for the zoning proceedings for the section VRT Polabí (HSR Elbe Flatlands). Správa železnic expects the construction to commence in 2025.
