Správa železnic has started design work on another section of the high-speed line network

Preparation of new high-speed lines (HSL) continues to accelerate. Správa železnic has concluded another contract for design work, this time for the HSL Highlands Phase I (VRT Vysočina fáze I). Documentation for zoning decision for the section between Velká Bíteš and Brno will be prepared by the company AFRY VRT Brno. Construction work on this line should start in 2028.

The High-Speed Lines Construction Management has selected the contractor for the documentation for zoning decision. AFRY VRT Brno, consisting of AFRY CZ and
ÅF-Infrastructure, succeeded in the procedure. The contractor will prepare a technical design for the approximately 30-kilometre section, an application for issuance of zoning decision, a natural history survey and documentation for EIA. According to the contract, the high-speed line will be created in the BIM information model. Last but not least, the contractor will cooperate in updating the Principles of territorial development of the regions concerned.

The double-track line will be designed for a speed of 320 km/h and equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS). It will be connected to the existing railway infrastructure by the Velká Bíteš exit, where a stop of the same name will be built. According to the proposal, the connection will be used by long-distance transport between the capital city and Brno to serve the northern part of the Vysočina Region. A second exit is planned to the Brno junction, respectively to Modřice.

HSL Highlands Phase I is part of the high-speed line RS 1/2 Praha – Brno – Ostrava/Břeclav. According to the current schedule, construction work on this branch should begin in 2025, when Správa železnic plans to start building several other sections of the new high-speed network. Information on the preparation of the HSL is regularly published on the website spravazeleznic.cz/vrt.
