Správa železnic joins regional digital technical maps

According to Director General Jiří Svoboda, Správa železnic considers this activity as an essential part of the digitisation of public administration and pays priority attention to it in order to build and manage a new agenda through which it will share information on railway infrastructure with public administration. The creation of the DTM CR by linking the DTM of individual regions, the Digital Technical Map of Railways and the DTM of the Road and Motorway Directorate, all through the Digital Map of Public Administration maintained by the Czech Office of Surveying and Cadastre, is a challenging task for its participants in terms of technical, organisational and financial. Additionally, it will test the ability of multiple actors to coordinate each other both at the creation itself, and to set up long-term sustainable cooperation.  

“The currently emerging first generation of the DTM of the Czech Republic is represented by the Coordination Council of Digital Map of Public Administration and Digital Technical Map Administrators established by the Government Council for the Information Society and led by the Vice-Chairman of the Czech Office of Surveying and Cadastre. Through delegated representatives of Správa železnic, we apply our experience, requirements and visions,” states Jiří Svoboda.

The Digital Technical Map of Railways is primarily being built for the needs of Správa železnic. It brings a new quality to the existing description of the railway network. For the entire railway network, previously fragmented, incomplete or multiple data will be unified, supplemented and made available. This will make it suitable for the increasingly high demands for automatic train control systems, for example. In practice, this data will find wide application, even as a guaranteed basis for designers. Of the current 5,800 km of track, which is already of a quality that allows robotic construction and maintenance work, a network coverage of approximately 15,500 km of tracks is expected. The purposefully acquired data will satisfy the maximum number of requirements that will be shared across all related agendas.

In addition to the aforementioned range of tracks, the Digital Technical Map of Railways also includes 40,000 km of networks and covers 21,000 ha of territory in which the Správa železnic manages the basic spatial situation for the regions. During 2022, contractors have been selected and are working intensively on contracts for both the infrastructure data and the related information system. The information system is being built in such a way that it fulfils its role in the DTM of the Czech Republic and all the needs of Správa železnic until 2025 in accordance with all the information systems of the DTM of the regions, the Road and Motorway Directorate and the Czech Office of Surveying and Cadastre. Organisationally and professionally, Správa železnic’s own railway surveyors are significantly involved in the implementation of Digital Technical Map of Railways, as this area has a long tradition in the state organisation and is a guarantee of successful construction and operation of Digital Technical Map of Railways.
