Správa železnic Presented Work on high-speed line Moravská brána I

Representatives of Správa železnic together with the project designers from the company AFRY presented the current state of work on the documentation for the high-speed line section VRT Moravská brána I (HSL Moravian Gate I). They also presented the benefits of high-speed lines (HSL) for the region and the method of the project negotiation in the affected municipalities in the region. Martin Švehlík, Director of the HSL Preparation Department, considers the cooperation with local governments to be crucial: “We started by visiting the communities well in advance, i.e. at a time when only the basic design of the line from the feasibility study was available. We are now moving on to the next phase, when we can discuss specific measures to protect the residents and the environment.” Správa železnic has been working on more detailed documentation for zoning decision with AFRY since the beginning of this year.

VRT Moravská brána I is the first section on which Správa železnic is considering the use of modern tools to present the work to the public, such as an interactive 3D model analogous to the video game world. Videos produced using this technology can effectively illustrate the sensitive setting of the lines in the landscape.

AFRY is an international company operating in the field of project design and engineering services and architecture. According to Ivo Šimek, the company's director general for the Czech Republic / Slovak Republic, the designers use experience from abroad: “We have knowledge of fast connection projects from Germany, Switzerland and Scandinavia. We want to use an innovative and effective way of transferring information between the project team, the investor and the local community to communicate with the public. This will include 3D processing of the line, a GIS portal and a transparent and open discussion with the public.” The investor and the contractor also place emphasis on sustainable technical solutions.

“Our goal is to bring to the Czech Republic what we offer elsewhere in the world. We use technology based on the Unreal Engine video game platform, which allows project data to be displayed in a completely realistic way. It is a new generation tool that is a breakthrough in designing of infrastructure projects in the Czech Republic. In contrast to predefined examples of work in the form of visualisations and animations, we create a real digital twin of the entire 200 km² section of the line,” Ivo Šimek, director general of AFRY for the Czech Republic / Slovak Republic, adds to the possibilities of the 3D model.

The roughly 20-kilometre section of the VRT Moravská brána I is part of the new high-speed line from Brno to Ostrava. Together with the VRT Moravská brána II (HSL Moravian Gate II), it forms a functional entity that will significantly increase the capacity of railway transport in the Olomouc and Moravian-Silesian regions. It can be offered for operation of freight or regional transport. The new lines will relieve the existing corridor between Přerov and Ostrava, which is largely used by long-distance passenger transport, for example. A significant benefit is also a reduction in travel time.
