Správa železnic received CZK 7.9 billion in funding from CEF programme

Správa železnic continues to successfully obtain subsidies from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). Nine projects were supported in the first call of the programme in the new subsidy period 2021–2027. Subsidies in the total amount of CZK 7.9 billion will be used for several modernisation projects on railway infrastructure, installation of ETCS control system on corridor lines and preparation of high-speed lines (HSL). The CEF funds were also allocated to software solutions for operation applications of Správa železnic. The average rate of involvement of European resources in construction projects is 82.4 per cent of eligible costs, and 50 per cent in project preparation assignments. A unit subsidy per kilometre of installation of this system is allocated to ETCS technological constructions.

Preference was given particularly to railway infrastructure modernisation projects; technological projects of ETCS installation on TEN-T lines were also successful:

Reconstruction of the railway station Vsetín
Optimisation of the line section Čelákovice – Mstětice
Junction Plzeň, 5th construction – Lobzy – Koterov
Optimisation of the line section Děčín východ – Děčín-Prostřední Žleb
Modernisation of the line Praha-Bubny – Praha-Výstaviště
ETCS state border with Germany – Dolní Žleb – Kralupy nad Vltavou
ETCS Praha-Uhříněves – Praha hl. n. – Lysá nad Labem – Milovice

In the area of high-speed lines, Správa železnic received its first ever subsidy, for the preparation of project documentation HSL Praha – Lovosice – Ústí nad Labem – state border with Germany. The support concerns documentation for zoning decisions for the sections Praha-Balabenka – Lovosice and Ústí nad Labem – cross-border tunnel to the state border with Germany, including project preparation of the high-speed terminals in Roudnice nad Labem and Ústí nad Labem. Preparation of the cross-border tunnel is being realised in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn.

Timetable Information Systems will also be supported. Through its main partner, the association of railway infrastructure managers RailNetEurope, Správa železnic successfully applied for a subsidy of CZK 20.3 million for Digital Capacity Management of railway infrastructure, including cross-border sections. This entails the acquisition of software and hardware to enable the coordination and exchange of data for the allocation of railway capacity to individual carriers.

Správa železnic will apply for additional funds from the CEF programme in the currently open call for infrastructure of mixed civil-military use and for infrastructure and technology projects, including project preparation of HSL in the second CEF call that is to be announced this autumn.
