Správa železnic renovated dozens of station buildings last year

The condition of station buildings across the Czech Republic is gradually improving. Správa železnic has been in charge of them since 2016, and in the following five years, it has renovated 284 buildings. Last year, another 36 locations were added to them. The result of the work was usually new check-in areas, barrier-free access, lavatories and a range of services. Approximately CZK 2.3 billion was spent on the construction works. This year, the amount earmarked for these purposes will be 200 million more. Dozens more stations will be reconstructed.

Among the most important projects completed last year were the repair of the façade of the Fanta building at the main railway station in Prague and the reconstruction of the building in Havířov. Passengers at the stations Veselí nad Lužnicí, Roztoky u Prahy, Čerčany, Přeštice, Hradec Králové Main Station, Úpořiny, Vimperk, Prachatice and Holešov were also able to enjoy the improved facilities. It is also finished in Horšovský Týn, Trutnov, Mníšek u Liberce, Nová Paka, Velvary, Štramberk, Hostinné or Mořkov.

Last year, significant renovations of listed station buildings continued in Pilsen, České Budějovice and Pardubice. Intensive work was also carried out on the renovation of the interiors of Prague's Fanta building. If everything goes according to plan, we will present the space to the public this autumn. There will be a new café and a business lounge for passengers,” stated Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic.     

During the year, the reconstruction of railway stations in Beroun, Vsetín, Písek, Tachov, Moravský Beroun, Podbořany, Bohosudov, Kostelec u Jihlavy, Adamov, Šakvice and Babice nad Svitavou also continued. Since autumn, suburban transport passengers can also use new facilities in Praha-Vysočany, where a new check-in hall has been built. The reconstruction of the entire station is also being worked on, especially the construction of the two remaining platforms.

A major reconstruction of the historic station building started last year at Teplice v Čechách station. The first phase focuses on the restoration of the roof, the entire façade and platform 1. New buildings have started to be built in Aš, Chodov and Radotín in Prague. Construction work has also started in Sokolnice-Telnice, Bílina, Benešov nad Ploučnicí, Krásná Lípa, Světlá nad Sázavou, Karviná, Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, Rybniště, Jablonné nad Orlicí, Bystřice (in the Třinec region) and Třebovice in Bohemia.

During this year, the renovation of station buildings at Ostrava-Vítkovice, Jaroměř, Letohrad, Hodonín, Hlinsko v Čechách, Střelice, Senice na Hané or Jindřichov ve Slezsku should start.
