Správa železnic Selected Winning Design of HSR Terminal Near Roudnice nad Labem

Winner of the architectural and urban design competition for the design and layout of the High-Speed Railway (HSR) terminal near Roudnice nad Labem is the architectural studio Rusina Frei architekti. Ten participants from the Czech Republic and abroad entered the competition. The assignment also included the requirement for the design of a service base, which will serve as a maintenance centre of the railway infrastructure on the entire section of VRT Podřipsko (HSR line Říp Flatlands).

Architects, urban planners and other experts have been seeking an interchange hub solution since September last year, when Správa železnic announced the competition. It also included the preparation of an urban design concept, which will offer the local authorities in the vicinity solution options for the wider area. The deadline for proposal submission was the end of November last year. In addition to independent experts and representatives of Správa železnic, the jury also included representatives of local authorities. The jury awarded all the submitted proposals, and all participants received a financial remuneration. Czech Chamber of Architects supervised the regularity of the competition. Experts from the Národní památkový ústav (National Heritage Institute) and the French state railways SNCF were also invited.

HSR Terminal Roudnice nad Labem VRT will increase the availability of high-speed rail in the region. Most frequently, it will be used by the inhabitants of the south-eastern part of the Ústí nad Labem Region and the adjacent territory of the Central Bohemian Region. Passengers will be able to reach the centre of Prague in 19 minutes, while the travel time to Ústí nad Labem will be reduced to 24 minutes after the entire HSR branch Praha – Dresden is completed. The terminal will also offer faster connections to other cities throughout the Czech Republic and abroad.

The transport hub at Roudnice Airport will offer convenient parking within the P+R system, a barrier-free transfer between the high-speed railway and the regional line No. 096 Roudnice nad Labem – Straškov and also a direct connection to the nearby motorway D8. A natural addition will be connecting line traffic or transport services for passengers.

The HSR section VRT Podřipsko between Praha and Lovosice will be a newly built line with a speed of up to 320 km/h. In addition to express trains, the high-speed line will also be used by other fast connections. Správa železnic expects this nearly 60-kilometre long section to be completed between 2027 and 2030.

The exhibition of the competition designs will be held at the information centre in Roudnice nad Labem. Opening of the exhibition will take place on 21 March 2022. Electronic version of the exhibition is also available to the public at https://www.spravazeleznic.cz/vrt/terminal-roudnice-nad-labem.
