Správa železnic will Modernize the Railway Line from Sokolov to Cheb

Správa železnic advanced in further preparation of reconstructing the line 140 in its part from Sokolov to Cheb. Works were divided into three separate investments; this week, public tenders were called for all of them to elaborate documentation for a territorial decision, including preparation of the EIA Announcement. The implementation of works is expected for 2024 - 2029.

All three constructions are closely interconnected; they include reconstruction of line sections between stations Sokolov – Kynšperk nad Ohří, Kynšperk nad Ohří – Tršnice and Tršnice – Cheb as well as railway stations Kynšperk nad Ohří and Tršnice. In mid-February, the project intents were approved by the Central Committee of the Ministry of Transport.

The objective of works is optimizing the line in its current path and exchanging the railway substructure and superstructure, reconstructing bridges, the catenary and signalling equipment. At the same time. a full-fledged European Train Control System (ETCS) will be prepared for the whole section. Adaptations of Tršnice Station will allow standing off and overtaking of freight trains 740 metres long in front of the Cheb junction. The tender includes also preparing an Environment Impact Announcement (EIA) for these constructions.
