Starting today, public can view the on-line design of HSL South Moravia

Správa železnic has launched the third Geographic Information System (GIS) for the planned network of high-speed lines (HSL). This time it is the section of the VRT Jižní Morava (HSL South Moravia) between Modřice and Šakvice. The portal will always show the last variant of the line routing in progress. People can make a question or comment about a specific place and the experts of Správa železnic will answer them directly through the system.

The portal allows users to view different types of base maps. In addition to the basic cadastral base, they can choose, for example, a noise or orthophoto map. It distinguishes roads, bridges, tunnels and other elements. The GIS portal also shows the alignment of the high-speed line in a cut or on an embankment.

The Geographical Information System will be continuously updated, as the technical design of the line gets more precise: “We are counting on at least three updates of data and documents. We know from experience in other sections that GIS is a truly invaluable tool for communication with the public. People can see where the line should go and how it may affect their own or even municipal land. Anyone can ask a question interactively, either publicly or anonymously, and we will answer it directly into the portal,” explains Marek Pinkava, Deputy Director of High-Speed Lines Construction Management, on behalf of Správa železnic. The GIS portal for VRT Jižní Morava will be operational until the completion of the documentation for zoning decision, i.e. until at least mid-2024.

Other sections of the planned HSL network also have their own interactive portal. Since last year, it can also be used by residents in the vicinity of the VRT Polabí (HSL Elbe Flatlands) between Prague and Poříčany or the VRT Moravská brána I (HSL Moravian Gate I) between Prosenice and Hranice. Správa železnic expects them to be launched gradually on all HSL sections.

The VRT Jižní Morava will be a roughly 40-kilometre double-track line with a maximum speed of 320 km/h. It will serve exclusively to passenger trains. In contrast to the design from the feasibility study, the line will be extended from Šakvice to Rakvice, where it will connect to the existing corridor Brno – Břeclav. Správa železnic is looking for a designer for this part now.
