SŽDC Cooperates with Regions on Preparation of Moravská brána HSL

In August, Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) signed contracts with the Moravia-Silesia and Olomouc Regions which are necessary for the updating of Territorial Development Principles in both regions. Their objective is to delimitate a corridor and to determine the construction’s public usefulness for the section of the future high-speed line between Prosenice and Ostrava-Svinov (HSL Moravská brána – Moravian Gate).

This section is an important part of the backbone HSL Prague – Brno – Ostrava. Delimitating the prepared HSL corridors in Territorial Development Principles is a basic prerequisite for a acquiring a territorial decision.  ”We cooperate quite closely with representatives of both regions responsible for this issue. For successful preparation of high-speed lines we will use outputs from the just launched feasibility study HSL Brno – Přerov – Ostrava as well as works of geodesists who are already working in the field“, says Mr. Jiří Svoboda, Director General of SŽDC.

SŽDC signed contracts with geodesists in the summer months. These concern carrying out geodetic works both on current railway lines and on the route of new ones between Přerov and Ostrava and between Brno and Vranovice respectively. Works in the field will go on during autumn months; SŽDC will have detailed maps for the whole length of the South Moravian section till the end of the year.

The implementation of HSL pilot sections will be an important contribution to a capacity increase on currently highly frequently railway lines which applies especially for the Czech Rail Transit Corridor II section from Přerov to Ostrava. At the same time, trains’ speed will increase as trains of different categories will not have to overtake each other anymore and journey times will not have to be extended due to high use of the lines. The construction of the first HSL pilot section should start in 2025.
