Trains near Teplice Will Ride Faster, People from Litvínov Will Acquire a Direct Connection to the Region Capital

The railway in the Krušné hory (Ore Mountains) area ín the Ústí nad Labem Region expects a substantial change in the period to come. Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) started modernizing several localities in the neighbourhood of Teplice. The works’ completion will bring not only higher line speed, operation safety and travelling comfort but thanks to electrification also a possibility of a direct connection of Litvínov with the region capital. A festive launch of three constructions concerned took place today in Teplice.

Revitalization and electrification of the line Oldřichov u Duchcova – Litvínov
The transport concept of the Ústí nad Labem Region plans i.a. to introduce direct electrical trains from the region’s centre up to Litvínov. Therefore, revitalization of the line Oldřichov u Duchcova - Litvínov includes building a catenary on a section between Louka u Litvínova and Litvínov, 1.5 kilometres long and un-electrified up to now. The first closures started precisely in this line section and will last up to 2 December.

Construction works will take two years, approximately 13.5 kilometres of line will be adapted. Travelling comfort at all stations and stops will improve thanks to a construction of new platforms with a standard height of 550 millimetres above the tracks. Access to trains will be completely barrier-free. Higher safety will be assured by electronic signalling equipment of Category 3; line speed will increase up to 100 kph. Traffic will be controlled remotely by controllers from Louka u Litvínova Station. Completion is planned for July 2021.

Total costs of the investment designated as Revitalization and electrification of the line Oldřichov u Duchcova – Litvínov equal CZK 1,131,096,824 (VAT excluded). The project is co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport 2014–2020. The EU contribution can amount up to CZK 809,499,350. National financing is assured by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The construction supplier is the company OLDA EŽ+EDIKT, consisting of the firms Elektrizace železnic Praha (company manager) and EDIKT.

Increasing line speed in the section Oldřichov u Duchcova – Bílina
The construction’s objective is a complete reconstruction of this line section which will allow increasing line speed up to 140 kph. This will result in shorter journey times of trains. Works will include adaptation of tracks at Oldřichov u Duchcova Station, on the siding line to the Duchcov welding plant, at the connection of branching lines to Litvínov and Teplice lesní brána and of course in the double-track line section Oldřichov u Duchcova – Bílina.

Due to the reconstruction at Oldřichov u Duchcova railway station, platforms will be moved to a part of the trackage in direction to Bílina for better access by passengers. A new railway stop Jeníkov-Oldřichov will be created there. In this connection, a new underpass will be built under the railway line to allow access to each platform for passengers.

The reconstruction includes also building new signalling equipment, a new catenary, lighting, electrical heating of switch points, constructing platforms at a standard height of 550 millimetres above the track and ensuring barrier-free access at reconstructed stops. The Duchcov railway stop will also experience considerable changes. The construction term of completion is June 2022.
