Trains Will Arrive from Louny Centre to Lovosice in One Hour

Increasing line speed up to 100 kph was the result of revitalization of the line from Louny to Lovosice which was festively completed today by Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC). Besides decreasing journey times, it also brought higher comfort for passengers at reconstructed railway stations and stops as well as higher operation safety. The construction was launched in April last year with total cost exceeding CZK 1.2 billion.

One of the project’s objectives was eliminating speed drops at railway crossings and increasing line speed; in the section between Radonice nad Ohří and Libochovice, trains can now ride at speeds up to 100 kph. Higher operation safety was assured by the installation of electronic line and station signalling equipment Category 3 as well as by safeguarding 26 railway crossings where new road crossing constructions were installed. The whole line is now controlled remotely by traffic controllers from Lovosice Station.

Adaptations were also carried out at each railway station. Koštice nad Ohří Station where trains were crossing each other was changed to a railway stop; trains now cross newly each other at the Radonice nad Ohří passing point. Stations at Čížkovicíe, Chotěšov pod Hazmburkem and Libochovice were reconstructed as well as railway stops Pátek, Křesín, Dubany and Libochovice město. New barrier-free platforms were built there with a boarding edge 550 mm above the top of rail. They were equipped with new roofing, lighting, station radio and an information system which can be used by sightless passengers as well.

Referring to the decision of the Ústí nad Labem Region on renewing regular operation of trains between Most and Lovosice, several additional modifications of the project occurred. Based on these, SŽDC carried out repair works in the section Sulejovice – Lovosice which allowed increasing line speed up to 100 kph. They included i.a. barrier-free adaptations at Sulejovice stop. Moreover, a new centre platform at Čížkovice was completed by another external platform at Track 3, an access sidewalk for passengers and an information system at the railway crossing which directs passengers before entering the station to the left or right side so that do not have to cross the tracks subsequently at places not designed for it.

As of this December already, the construction completion will result in a considerable decrease of passenger trains’ journey times between stations Louny and Lovosice and back. Trains can ride the complete route usually in 52 or 53 minutes. Thanks to the introduction of a new transport concept on the line 114, passengers will be able to get from the Louny centre (station Louny město) up to Lovosice. The full revitalization effect will show as of December next year when fast trains from Žatec to Ústí nad Labem will be introduced on this line for the first time.

Total costs of this investment designated as Revitalization of the line Louny – Lovosice equal CZK 1,231,185,702 (VAT excluded). The project is co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the operational Programme Transport 2014–2020. The EU contribution can amount up to CZK 974,365,453. National financing is provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The construction supplier was the company Společnost Louny – Lovosice, consisting of the firms STRABAG Rail (company manager), AŽD Praha and Swietelsky Rail CZ.

For next year, a reconstruction of two steel truss bridges over Ohře River and the adjoining inundation territory situated near Koštice nad Ohří Station is planned on the above-mentioned railway line. Expected costs amount to CZK 175 million.
