We search for ETCS contractor for more than 100 km section on Elbe's left bank

Správa železnic has announced a tender for the design and implementation of the ETCS installation on a more than 100-kilometre-long section from the state border with Germany to Kralupy nad Vltavou. This is the first contract in the field of the introduction of the European train control system, which addresses the construction directly for the exclusive operation of ETCS, including subsequent servicing throughout the lifetime of the equipment. The selected contractor will then carry out the construction work, certification of the entire system and its maintenance after the completion of the designs and acquisition of the relevant permits. Total investment cost of the project is CZK 11.8 billion.

The project involves installation of complete signalling equipment and remote control and the construction of the ETCS system (Level 2). Traffic on the line, which mostly runs on the left bank of the Elbe River, will be controlled remotely from a central workplace in Prague's Balabenka, where the relevant traffic control room will be equipped.

In individual railway stations and stops, internal technological equipment will be modified and supplemented for the possibility of remote control. In addition, cables will be added in connection with the construction of the camera system and information system. At the same time, the builders will replace or dismantle individual signals and replace crossing protection installation at level crossings.

The modifications will also include the removal of unnecessary infrastructure elements. As part of the works, new buildings will be constructed to house all the necessary technological equipment. A completely new local 22 kV distribution network, the so-called primary distribution network, will be established to supply them.

The ETCS Kralupy nad Vltavou – Hrobce project, which is a part of the state border Germany – Dolní Žleb – Kralupy nad Vltavou ETCS construction, will be co-financed by the EU from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme with a maximum contribution of EUR 13,631,030, which is approximately CZK 323,417,082. National financing is provided by SFDI (State Fund for Transport Infrastructure).
