Work on corridor between Lipník nad Bečvou and Drahotuše will start in September already

The busy section of the second railway corridor between Lipník nad Bečvou and Drahotuše is awaiting complete modernisation. The winner of the tender for the construction contractor is the association of companies Eurovia CS, Chládek a Tintěra Pardubice, GJW Praha and Elektrizace železnic Praha, which submitted a bid of CZK 2.1 billion. Work on the six-kilometre section will start in September.

The modernisation of this section represents another step towards improving the railway backbone network and increasing the capacity for both passenger and freight transport. One of the key parts of the investment is the construction of a new branch line Jezernice, which will allow trains to switch from one track to another, which will ensure better capacity of the busy line. Nine bridges and four culverts will also be renovated.

The current state of the infrastructure in this section requires frequent and costly maintenance, which affects the flow of traffic. This will be improved not only by upgrading the infrastructure but also by installing state-of-the-art signalling equipment. The noise barrier in Slavíč will reduce the degree of noise loading in the vicinity of the line,” explains Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic.

The work progress shall be planned to minimise traffic disruption. Two temporary diversions will be set up to divide the entire upgraded section into thirds, which will allow train traffic to be maintained as much as possible. For safety reasons, solid safety barriers will be installed around the workplaces, this will allow us to keep the speed of passing trains up to 80 km/h,” adds Jiří Svoboda. The contractor will ensure the safety protection of the overhead contact line in such a way as to minimise the use of so-called self-locking hook clips.

The upcoming modernisation is closely connected with the reconstruction of another corridor section between Polom and Suchdol nad Odrou. Work will start here in 2025, when the passage between Lipník and Drahotuše will be temporarily restored. The work activities on both sections will then take place successively in 2026 and 2027.

The first works between Lipník and Drahotuše will start in September and will be finished at the end of 2027. The value of the construction works, i.e., the winning bid, is CZK 2,140,497,101. Financing for the construction will be provided from national resources and a loan from the European Investment Bank.
