Czech-Saxon Cross-Border Cooperation Project Brings First Results
The cross-border cooperation project for developing railway transport between Saxony and the Czech Republic brings its first specific results. According to the conclusions of a conference held last week in Ústí nad Labem, some achievements of collaborating experts could already be incorporated into the feasibility study for a new railway connection between Prague and Dresden which is currently in its elaboration phase and will determine the layout of a new line in the region.

Repairs Started on a Part of Sázava Pacific Train Line Between Ledečko a Zruč nad Sázavou
In mid-October, works were launched on putting a part of the Sázava Pacific Train between Kácov and Zruč nad Sázavou into operation. As of Monday 29 October, repairs will start also on another section leading from Kácov to Ledečko. The railway superstructure and substructure is going to be completely repaired on a line approximately 30 kilometres long. Related costs will reach a sum of CZK 616.9 million; works will be completed up to next June, which is before the main tourist season starts.

Visit of the British Advisor for High-speed Lines Professor McNaughton in the Czech Republic
Professor Andrew McNaughton, the strategic advisor of Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) for implementing the programme of developing rapid railway connections on our territory approved by our government, visited again the Czech Republic on 23. – 24 October.

SŽDC Strives to Increase Safety at Railway Crossings in a Long Term
Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) systematically strives to increase safety at railway crossings. Every year, it selects in cooperation with the Police of the Czech Republic and the Rail Authority dozens of railway crossings which are suitable for modernization or a safety increase, especially on transit corridors and at crossings with 1st class roads. At the same time, SŽDC strives to decrease the number of crossings on the Czech railway network.

Feasibility Study Assesses Alternatives of New Connection Prague – Beroun
At the beginning of next year, results of the feasibility study for the new route Prague – Beroun ordered by Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC will be available). The document assesses individual alternatives for the new line between these two cities, especially from the economic effectiveness point of view. There are three alternatives altogether: alternative C with a long tunnel between the Prague quarter Smíchov and Beroun, alternative B with a shorter tunnel in the line section Praha-Radotín – Beroun and alternative F with tunnels up to 5 kilometres long in the line section Praha-Radotín – Řevnice. The new line is designed for mixed transport  with a maximum speed up to 200 kph.

SŽDC Called Tenders for Suppliers of Six Constructions
This week, Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) called tenders for suppliers of six important constructions with investment costs exceeding CZK 8 billion. Railway stations Řetenice, Letohrad and Mikulášovice dolní nádraží are going to be reconstructed.  The lines Litvínov - Oldřichov u Duchcova and Šakvice – Hustopeče u Brna will be revitalized and electrified. One of the most costly is the second stage of the Přerov railway junction modernization.

Tactical Training Train 2018 – Explosion in a Railway Car
On Wednesday 3 October 2018, Integrated Rescue System units were training coordination of individual intervention activities in case of a simulated pressure bottle explosion in a railway dining car. Besides the Fire Rescue Service of SŽDC and Fire Rescue Service of the capital city of Prague, the Association of Rescue Volunteers of the Czech Republic took also part in the training.

SŽDC Steel Bridge Spanning Over Dyje River Received Main European Award
The construction of a new railway bridge spanning over Dyje River near the Czech-Austrian state border was the final winner of the fifth year of the European Steel Bridge Awards 2018 contest. The festive announcement of the contest’s results took place in Prague within an international symposium with the participation of 220 delegates from 32 countries not only on the European continent.

Ejpovice Tunnel Construction Nears Completion, First Train to Run Through South Tube in Two Months Already
Construction of the longest railway tunnel in the Czech Republic so far nears its final stage. On 15 November already, the first train will run through the southern tube of the Ejpovice tunnel. With the entry into force of the new timetable as of 9 December, operation of all trains through both tubes will start and passenger will thus be able to appreciate the most substantial of the construction’s assets – shorter journey times between Plzeň and Prague.

Czech Police Starts Using Repaired Premises at Děčín Main Railway Station
Today, Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) festively handed over repaired premises in the passenger building of the railway main station in Děčín to the Police of the Czech Republic for future use. Works in the interior of the listed building dating from the mid-19th century were going on since the end of this April
