Repairs Started on a Part of Sázava Pacific Train Line Between Ledečko a Zruč nad Sázavou

26.10.2018

In mid-October, works were launched on putting a part of the Sázava Pacific Train between Kácov and Zruč nad Sázavou into operation. As of Monday 29 October, repairs will start also on another section leading from Kácov to Ledečko. The railway superstructure and substructure is going to be completely repaired on a line approximately 30 kilometres long. Related costs will reach a sum of CZK 616.9 million; works will be completed up to next June, which is before the main tourist season starts.

Repair works will also include construction of a continuous welded rail which will assure smoother and more comfortable train rides. Rehabilitation and rock clearing will also result in higher railway operation safety. Repairs will eliminate slow rides in a section 8,306 metres long. Passengers will also appreciate repairs of platforms and lighting. Crossing constructions, bridges and culverts will be repaired as well.

Last year, transport was restricted on this line more than 115 years old; in the section Kácov – Zruč nad Sázavou, train operation was stopped completely. The principal reason was a higher occurrence of defectoscopic flaws on rails which could not be eliminated by simple maintenance and repairs. A major number of sleepers also reached their durability limit which has a direct impact on the stability and quality of the track geometry. Another reason for stopping operation was unstable rock walls in the immediate vicinity of the line with parts of the rock massif getting loose, which posed a danger to railway operation.

Repairs in the above-mentioned line section will eliminate any operation restrictions on the line in a long term to the passengers’ satisfaction.
