28.04.2016

Brno, 28 April 2016 – Správa železniční dopravní cesty (the Railway Infrastructure Administration – SZDC) festively completed reconstruction of tracks in the line sections Brno-Maloměřice – Brno-Královo Pole and Brno-Královo Pole – Kuřim. The main asset of both constructions is an increase of line speed and safety as well as traveling comfort.

Railway lines in both these sections were built in the years 1938–1953, they were electrified in the 60s and 70s and equipped with contemporary safety and signalling equipment. The last continuous reconstruction of railway superstructure was carried out in 1977.

”The result of track reconstruction on the railway lines in Brno will please especially railway transport passengers. Travelling by train in the line section Maloměřice – Královo Pole and Královo Pole – Kuřim is now more comfortable, faster and safe,“ says Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of SZDC about both constructions’ assets.

Works also included reconstruction of platforms, bridges and culverts, tunnels, the catenary, safety and communication equipment and power supply.

Constructions correspond to global objectives of Operational Programme Transport Priority Axis 1 which is an improvement of railway transport of the Trans-European transport network TEN-T. The project will result especially in increasing current line speed and transport availability.
