2017 Photographic Contest Knows its Winners

In the governmental lounge of Prague Main Station, results of the 6^th year of SŽDC Photographic Contest were announced. This year's topic was We Live by Rail. More than five hundred pictures brought together this year were sent by 87 competitors. A number of material prizes and valuable gifts from sponsors of the contest were awaiting the winners selected by a professional jury.

"By passing each year of contest, we are moving to a new, original view of the railway world. We intend to inspire photographers to focus themselves on modernization of railway lines, reconstruction of stations and new perspectives of life on railway and its surroundings," Director of SŽDC Communication Section Jakub Ptačinský was quoted as saying.

This year, the competition of non-professional photographers took place in two rounds as well. In the first round, images advancing to the second round are selected from all the sent pictures. By voting on the website of the photographic contest http://www.szdc.cz/fotosoutez, the public determines its winner therefrom. A professional jury represented by the winner of one of the previous years of the Czech Press Photo Contest Vojta Herout, Hana Connor, Josef Voleman, Antonín Lavrenčík and Director of the Fotoinstitut.cz company Helena Macenauerová then decided on the first three places of each category and the absolute winner of the entire photographic contest.

Contest categories and winners of the year 2017:

Current infrastructure
Presented the view of its creators on the modernized corridors, pictures depicting the current railways in the countryside or in the city. It also includes pictures of the current state of railways - architecture, station buildings, infrastructure, railway equipment. First place went to Miroslav Volek and his picture called Olomouc in the night.

People and professions on the railway
As the name of category itself implies for, pictures capturing actors symbolizing life in and around the railroad were collected in this category, with the winner being Libor Hromádka and his picture Reconstruction of rails.

Photographic reportage and freestyle
This category was carried out in the spirit of reportage photography capturing moments of everyday life on railway, but also the art work with pictures. Victory in this category was taken by Miroslav Čarek and his picture We need to fix it.

Student category
Best in the category intended exclusively for students up to 25 of age who together with their images may attend any category, was a student of VOŠ (College) and Masná Transport SPŠ (High School) in Prague Adam Ritschel with the picture of Žampach Viaduct.

Prize of the public
It reflects voting at the contest website. Similar to the previous year, the prize was taken by Miroslav Veselý, this time for the picture called Spring in Skovice.

Absolute winner of photo contest
A photographer who posted his images in the student category, Vojtěch Láska and his picture Bridge in the morning, became absolute winner of the year 2017, with his name being unanimously agreed on by all members of the jury.

Gratitude also goes to partners of the contest who prepared interesting prizes for the best participants. In particular, they included Cestovní kancelář (Travel Agency) ČD Travel, Foto Škoda, Fotoinstitut, Nikon and Railway Research Institute. For instance, a journey of the holder’s own choice amounting to CZK 15 000, the publication “Mastery of Work With a DSLR Camera”, vouchers to buy photographic products and services and photographic trainings and workshops were awaiting the authors of the best pictures.
