Hanušovice – Jeseník Railway Line Upgraded Extensively

Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) improved parameters of the railway line from Šumperk to Krnov in the section Hanušovice – Jeseník. The main objective of the project was to return it to a technical condition corresponding to European standards.

In the context of construction, the modernization of the superstructure including tracks and telecommunication and signalling equipment as well was carried out. Furthermore, the construction workers adjusted switches and platforms at the stations. The existing lightings installed in Jindřichov na Moravě, Branné, Ostružné, Horní Lipová and at the stop of Nové Losiny were replaced. The modernization of level crossings enabled to improve operation safety and eliminate the local speed limit at the same time.

"One of the main values added of the construction works carried out on Railway Line No. 292 is to increase driving comfort and operation safety in the first place," Director of SŽDC Civil Engineering Administration East Mr. Miroslav Bocák was quoted as saying.

In accordance with the global objective of Priority Axis 3 of the Operational Programme Transport, being the improvement of railway transport outside TEN-T Trans-European Network, an increase of transport availability, provision of railway capacity and railway operation quality for the forward-looking scope of transport was achieved.

The project called Šumperk – Krnov Railway Line No. 292 in the section Hanušovice – Jeseník was supported substantially by financial means from the European Union. It was a project broken down into stages with its 1^st one being co-financed under 2007–2013 OP Transport frame and the 2^nd under 2014–2020 OP Transport frame. Total costs of the project, both stage 1 and 2, amounted to 838,854,863 CZK without VAT. The projected contribution of the European Union under the Cohesion Fund for the entire construction amounted up to 558,156,573 CZK. National financing was provided for by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
