Horažďovice předměstí railway station experienced an important change

Horažďovice, 13 October 2016 – Správa železniční dopravní cesty (the Czech Railway Infrastructure Administration) reconstructed the railway station Horažďovice předměstí, situated on the partially double-tracked line České Budějovice - Plzeň. The main asset of this project is mainly increased railway transport safety in this section and ensuring higher comfort for passengers.

The construction included building a new centre platform (roofed in part) and a side platform. Access to the centre platform is now assured by an underpass with exits by stairs, by ramps and by a lift.  Track developments on both station ends and current culverts were also reconstructed. Information panels were added to the platforms, waiting rooms and cash desks were equipped with monitors displaying current train departures.

”A reconstruction of Horažďovice předměstí railway station was already necessary, that is why extensive construction works were under way already last year. I believe that passengers will forgive us temporary discomfort as the result is really worth it. They can look forward not only to a new underpass and platform but also to more comfortable and safe travelling“, said Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of SŽDC.

Safety and signalling equipment on the line is automatic, a clear line is assured by axle counters in all sections connected to Horažďovice předměstí station, i.e. to Střelské Hoštice, Pačejov and Horažďovice. Adaptations were also carried out on the technological building, station safety equipment and local cables, on technological networks for information equipment connection, on camera systems and the buildings’ safeguarding. A new antenna mast of the track radio system (TRS) was built as well.

The project is in accordance with the global objective of the Operational Programme Transport Priority Axis 1 which is an improvement of railway transport on the Trans-European Transport network TEN-T. Implementation of the project will bring especially higher safety and comfort for passengers, better orientation and a shorter walking distance.

Total estimated costs of the construction designated as Reconstruction of Horažďovice předměstí railway station amounted up to CZK 638,463,047 (VAT excluded). The project was approved for co-financing by the European Union under the Operational Programme Transport with a planned amount from the Cohesion Fund reaching up to CZK 501,890,884. National financing was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The BERGER Bohemia a.s. company acted as the supplier.
