Modernisation of Horusice – Veselí nad Lužnicí line section complete

05.05.2016

Veselí nad Lužnicí, 5 May 2016 – Today, Správa železniční dopravní cesty (the Railway Infrastructure Administration) festively completed modernisation of the line Horusice - Veselí nad Lužnicí which is part of Czech Rail Transit Corridor IV. Works included especially building a second track of a section between stations approximately five kilometres long which allowed an increase of transport capacity; line speed could be increased as well.

”The most visible part of the modernisation was building a second track in another section of a still single track line in part between Prague and České Budějovice. Thanks to tracks shifting, the whole section got considerably shorter and line speed of passing train-sets could increase up to 160 kph“, said Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of SZDC.

The construction also included a reconstruction of the railway stop at Veselí nad Lužnicí and especially complete reconstruction of the local station which is an important change junction. Newly built central platforms now allow passengers comfortable train boarding. The platforms are connected by an underpass which leads to an area in front of the railway station. Barrier-free access to passengers with limited mobility is assured by lifts.

Total estimated costs of the construction designated as Modernisation of the line Ševětín – Veselí nad Lužnicí – Part II, section Horusice – Veselí nad Lužnicí amounted up to 1,608,618,185 CZK (VAT excluded). The project is co-financed by the European Union under the Operational Programme Transport with a planned amount from the Cohesion Fund reaching up to 1,094,590,346 CZK. National financing was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. Works were supplied by the company EUROVIA CS.
