Two New Railway Stations Arising in Prague – Eden and Zahradní Město

15.08.2018

Up to the end of 2021, availability of the 10th Prague district by railway transport will improve considerably. This will be facilitated by completing a construction for a price of more that CZK 4 billion which was festively launched today by Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC). Trains connecting our capital city with Southern Bohemia will newly use a quadruple-track capacity line where a new station railway Praha-Zahradní Město and a railway stop Praha-Eden will be built. Line speed will increase up to 120 kph.

”The railway plays an important role in international transport. Its importance will increase even more when a quadruple-track line is finished on the site of the former marshalling yard at Vršovice thanks to this construction. This operation takes up the modernization of Praha-Hostivař Station; at the same time, works continue on another section of Czech Rail Transit Corridor IV between Sudoměřice u Tábora and Votice. In several years already, we will be able to travel to Southern Bohemia on a continuously modernized section from Planá nad Lužnicí in Tábor Region up to the station of Vršovice in Prague”, said Mr. Dan Ťok, Minister of Transport of the Czech Republic.

”The modernization will ensure comfortable long-distance transport as well as facilitate travelling within the capital city in a considerable way. Both the new station at Zahradní Město and the railway stop at Eden situated near the football stadium of the Prague Slavia club will become important change nodes to mass urban transport. Platforms at Zahradní Město Station will be situated directly over the extended underpass in Průběžná Street with tram stops“, said Mr. Jiří Svoboda, Director General of SŽDC about other assets of this construction. He added that the current line spanning over Strašnice would be closed and its infrastructure would be used for other purposes in the future. The straightened section will be 6,070 metres long.

The station at Vršovice will undergo a considerable change as well. A modern platform in the standard height of 550 mm above the rails will improve considerably travelling comfort for passengers who will also acquire barrier-free access to trains. Inhabitants of Nusle quarter will appreciate the extension of the current passage under the whole station trackage towards Bartoškova Street. Access from platforms up to station forecourt premises will be a new feature as well.

”We are pleased that the project being launched right now will contribute to a higher comfier for passengers not only in affected parts of the capital city but also in parts of the neighbouring Central Bohemia Region. We believe that a successful implementation of the project will please the still growing number of inhabitants in this area and that we will hand over the quadruple-track line in the du term and standardly high quality“, added Mr. Pavel Pilát, Director General of Metrostav on behalf of the association of supplier companies

During this year, preparatory works will take place, especially the demolition of bridges spanning over the streets V Korytech and U Vršovického hřbitova. Closures of roads are planned mostly on weekends. Passengers should therefore not have to cope with more serious complications.

However, the construction cannot completely avoid several short traffic interruptions. The first continuous three-day closure in the direction Malešice – Vršovice is planned for the first quarter of next year. More restrictions will be carried out in stages at Praha-Vršovice Station since next spring according to the construction schedule of the underpass extension, the trackage and bridges’ construction. A three-week closure of the tram line between Průběžná Street and Zahradní Město for dismantling and demolition of the railway bridge is planned for the same period

The project designated as Optimisation for the line section Praha Hostivař – Praha hlavní nádraží, Part II – Praha Hostivař – Praha hlavní nádraží is co-financed by the EU from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme). Total construction costs are estimated to an amount of CZK 4,419,960,495.
